Middlesbrough restaurant gutted by fire
A Teeside diner has been gutted by fire, demonstrating the necessity for business owners and all Responsible Persons to carry out fire risk assessments.
The fire services got to Grubbs Diner, in the Newport Road area of Middlesbrough, at 7.27 and had the blaze under control within the hour, reports the Evening Gazette.
Cooking equipment such as microwaves and grills have been lost, putting the costs into the thousands of pounds.
Anthony Mosley, station officer at Marine fire station, spoke to the local news provider about the incident, which was controlled using two breathing apparatus, one hose reel and a ventilation fan.
“There were no injuries,” he said. “Mr Murphy had started off a deep fat fryer for the day when fire broke out. He attempted to put it out himself but was not successful.”
“He evacuated the staff from the property and called 999 but the kitchen was seriously damaged and the rest of the cafe was smoke damaged.”
