Landlord fined £2,600 for not adhering to fire regulations
A landlord of a house in multiple occupation has been fined £2,600 for failing to adhere to regulations, including rules set out in Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
Inspectors discovered a catalogue of danger in the converted three-story property in Liverpool, which included a faulty fire detection system and hazardous wiring.
The dangerous flats were first discovered after fire services responded to a false fire alarm at the property, which was then reported to Environmental Health Officers.
The Responsible Person of the house in Wavetree Road, Liverpool pleaded guilty to the 13 charges at Liverpool Magistrates Court and was fined £200 per offence and ordered to pay court costs.
Disciplinary fines reiterate the need for Responsible Persons to carry out fire risk assessments on properties. Councillor Tim Moore, cabinet member for the environment on Liverpool City Council, said landlords should see the case as a warning.
“This case serves as a reminder to landlords of houses in multiple occupation that they must manage and maintain their properties,” he said. “Not wait for the Council to bring matters to their attention”
