IOSH supports Mauritius initiative
The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) has responded to a request for support from the Ministry of Labour, in Mauritius, for an initiative to improve occupational health and safety knowledge in the republic.
The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) Vice President Andy Lo visited the island of Mauritius to meet local IOSH members and Ministry of Labour representatives after a request for support from the Mauritius Ministry of Labour. The Ministry are running an initiative to improve occupational safety and health knowledge in the republic. The Ministry is setting up an OSH Research and Documentation Centre, which will be launched on International Labour Day 1st May 2014.
IOSH international officer Gisela Derrick said: “The Ministry has requested our cooperation in terms of information resources, as a leading international safety professional organisation.
“IOSH has donated a number of our own publications, technical guidelines and other OSH-related resources with the intention of supporting their initiative, and making relevant information about safety and health more widely available not only for professionals but also other stakeholders in Mauritius.”
The Ministry said its rationale for the initiative was to provide workers, employers, trade unionists, researchers and students, among others, with an accurate and extensive source of information pertaining to the world of work.
