Sussex man suffers imprisonment under the corporate manslaughter act
The owner of a company from East Sussex has become the latest person to suffer imprisonment under the corporate manslaughter act .
Colin Cooper, the owner and director of IC Roofing Ltd, has been sentenced to 12 months following a recent prosecution by Sussex police and the Health and Safety Executive .
In November 2005, Darren Hoofe was killed while working at height in a factory in Uckfield. Mr Cooper previously entered a guilty plea for health and safety offences related to the incident .
Commenting on the prosecution for corporate manslaughter, the HSE inspector, Amanda Huff, said: “If there is to be any positive outcome from this tragic death, it has to be that employers realise the seriousness of breaches to health and safety legislation.”
The HSE went on to add that it’s important for companies to carry-out full risk assessments before allowing working at height to be carried out by employees .
