BIIAB LEVEL 1 AWARD IN RESPONSIBLE ALCOHOL RETAILING
Anyone who is involved in the sale of alcohol has legal and social responsibilities that must be met. The Award in Responsible Alcohol Retailing (ARAR) provides the essential knowledge required to enable those authorised to sell alcohol by a personal licence holder to do so legally and responsibly.
Topic areas covered:
- The nature of alcohol and the effect that it has on the human body
- The main issues in the 2003 Licensing Act as they relate to alcohol retailers and servers
- Licensing law in relation to the protection of children from harm
- The social responsibilities relating to the retail sale of alcohol
- How to recognise drunkenness, and your duty not to serve drunk customers
- Appropriate strategies that can be adopted to prevent or eliminate alcohol-related crime and conflict and the importance of personal safety

In any licensed premises including:
- Pubs, Hotels, Restaurants, Bars, Supermarkets, Convenience Stores
- Off-licences, Nightclubs, Leisure Parks, Sports and Social Clubs

BIIAB NATIONAL CERTIFICATE FOR PERSONAL LICENSE HOLDERS
It is now the law in England & Wales that everyone who authorises the sale of alcohol to the public must hold a personal licence. In order to be granted a licence you must hold a licensing qualification such as the BIIAB NCPLH.

- Roles, responsibilities and functions of licensing authorities
- Application process for a personal licence
- Role and legal responsibilities of the personal licence holder and the penalties for failure to comply with the law
- Premises licence and content of operating schedules
- Role and duties of the Designated Premises Supervisor
- Unauthorised licensable activities
- Permitted temporary licensable activities
- Rights of entry to licensed premises
- Police powers in relation to suspension and closure of licensed premises
- Specified prohibitions for the sale of alcohol
- Strengths of alcoholic drinks and the effects of alcohol on the human body
- Protection of children from harm
- Responsible retail sale of alcohol
